Thallus ±forming rosettes of coalescing to ±imbricate squamules, to 3 cm wide. Squamules round to irregular (0.1–) 0.3–1 (–3) mm wide, resting on a prominent, black or blue-black prothallus with slightly enlarged marginal lobes. Upper surface becoming lobulate centrally, matt, slate blue-grey when wet, pale grey to fawn when dry. Apothecia common, ±central on squamules, 0.1–1.5 mm wide; disc flat, red-brown, with prominent paler proper exciple; thalline exciple variously developed, of secondary lobules arising from apothecium base, forming crown-like structure; hymenium I+ red-brown. Ascospores simple, ellipsoidal, 10–15 × 5–8 µm, hyaline. | ||
Known in Australia from a single collection from Tas., on bark of trees in cool, humid rainforest; known also from Auckland Islands, N.Z. | ||
